ASANER Short Course Championships Report by Barbara Blakeburn

Billingham ASC swimmers were back in competitive action last weekend at The North Eastern Regional County Championships.

In the senior age group, Stephanie Blakeburn was outstanding. She won two gold medals in the finals of 100 and 200 metres butterfly, two silver medals in finals of 100 and 200 metres individual medley and the bronze medal in 50 metres freestyle final. Stephanie set a new personal best time in 100 metres individual medley and new season’s best times in all other events.

Sam Chell had a great weekend winning places in the finals of 50 metres freestyle and breaststroke where he was placed 8th and 9th and 100 metres freestyle and breaststroke, where he was placed 7th and 8th. Sam also set new personal best times in the 50 metres breaststroke and 100 metres freestyle.

Claire Collins swam well throughout the weekend setting four new personal times in 50, 100 and 200 metres breaststroke and 200 metres individual medley. Claire won a place in the final of 100 metres breaststroke where she was placed 5th.

Hayley Briggs continued her excellent form setting new personal best times in both the heat and the final of 200 metres backstroke, where she was placed 6th. Hayley also set a new personal best time in the 100 metres backstroke.

Jordan Mogford set a good new personal best time in 50 metres breaststroke.

In the junior age group, Jack Harwood was in impressive form taking 4 seconds off his previous best times in 100 metres individual medley and 200 metres butterfly. Jack also set great new personal best times in 100 metres butterfly and 200 metres individual medley.

Ethan Brown set splendid new personal best times in all three of his events, 50 metres butterfly, backstroke and freestyle.

Jude Blackmore also set a great new personal best time in 200 metres butterfly.

Adam Whyborne had a great race in 50 metres butterfly setting a new personal best time.

Peter Harbron took 4 seconds off his previous best time in 200 metres butterfly.

Freya Williams had a busy weekend setting good times in 50 metres freestyle and butterfly, 100, 200 and 400 metres freestyle and 200 metres backstroke.

The youngest member of the squad, Leone Young, age 12, set great new personal best times in all five of her events 50 metres freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke, 200 and 400 metres freestyle.

At the end of the weekend Head Coach Guy Fawkes was delighted with the performances of all the swimmers.
